Making its way back from Monterey Car Week, the Ferrari 12Cilindri made a pit stop at our Beverly Hills and Westlake showrooms. Amidst the private viewings and general buzz, we managed to spend a quiet morning with the stunning berlinetta in picturesque Malibu where, even in the early AM hours, it drew eyes and sparked conversation.

First unveiled in Miami earlier this year, the 12Cilindri has been a hot topic ever since. The name itself is cause for discussion, mostly on how exactly one pronounces it: “dodd-ee-chee chill-inn-dree”. In true Ferrari style, the name is quite literal. A perfect example being the Testarossa, which is Italian for “red head”, a name simply derived from the car’s bright red painted cam covers. And of course, there is the LaFerrari, serving as the ultimate expression of the marque.

Aesthetically, it’s impossible not to draw comparisons between the 12Cilindri’s strong design language and that of the 365 GTB/4. The 12Cilindri is a contemporary evolution of the iconic V12 grand tourers of the 50s and 60s enhanced by modern technologies. Producing more than 800hp, the 12Cilindri is propelled from 0 to 62mph in a mere 2.9 seconds and capable of reaching speeds up to 211 miles per hour.

Once the initial wow factor settled, impressions mirrored such as “this car has a real presence”, “photos don’t do it justice”, and of course “it’s truly a modern take on the legendary Daytona” with many opting to spend time simply taking it all in. The 12Cilindri is an exercise in discovery, the longer you look, the more nuances and intricacies are revealed. It is truly a sight to be seen… and we can’t wait to start seeing them on the open road.
