Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta

The 458 Speciale A “Aperta” is the most powerful V8 engine ever built by Ferrari giving the vehicle special character with its massive 597 hp at 9000 rpm engine.  This exclusive Ferrari is limited to 499 clients worldwide.  A special plaque in the cockpit commemorates three International Best Performance Engine awards won by the power plant.

The 458 Speciale A is the most powerful Spider in Ferrari history. Its aluminum retractable hard top actually reduces this model’s weight compared to the Speciale coupe by 110 pounds. It can sprint from 0mph to 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds and logs a best Fiorano test track lap time of 1:23.5.

A limited-production of this model demands an exceptional engine. Making 597 hp at 9000 rpm, it is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 ever from Maranello. The Speciale  A shows an exceptional power-to-weight ratio of 4.97 pounds per hp.

Optimized combustion chambers and new crankshaft geometry for more frequent high-rpm operation, new intake geometry, and new cam profiles are just some of the work that allowed designers to meet targets. The new carbon-fiber intake manifold and air box remove 17.6 pounds from the engine compartment.

The 458 Speciale A is the most aerodynamically efficient Spider in Ferrari history with coefficient of 1.37, yet with high downforce (Cl: 0.485) and very low drag (Cd: 0.355). Patented active aerodynamics plays a key role, allowing maximum downforce when cornering and minimum drag on straights.

At the front of the car there are two vertical flaps in the center with a horizontal flap below them. At low speed, the flaps remain closed, channeling air into the radiators. Although, at speeds over 105 mph the flaps open, reducing air flowing into the radiators, reducing drag.

Vehicle Dynamics

Record-breaking innovations and decades of mechanical expertise join together in the 458 Speciale A. With new electronics, brakes, suspension calibration and model-specific tires, the lap times have dropped. Attaining repeatable, high-performance driving thrill without professional-level driving skill goes way up, as well. Response to steering input of 0.060 seconds and lateral acceleration of 1.33 g break the record for a Ferrari production car.
